Gyotaku Fish Printing Workshop

All ages are welcome. Children below the age of 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Gyotaku is a 19th century form of visually documenting fish in Japan. Sumi ink, the traditional calligraphy ink, is applied directly to the fish and then a sheet of kozo, is rubbed onto the fish causing its image to transfer over to the paper.
Dwight Hwang, who has recently taught at the Smithsonian Natural History Museum, will personally instruct you on how to prep and print a fish, but also convey the philosophies and aesthetics of classical Japan.
The fish and all materials are supplied so you only need to bring yourself, a willingness to get your hands inky and fishy, and an open mind. You are also welcome to bring fish of your own if you wish as long as they are 24 inches or smaller.
