Here, Our Voices:
Our Missing and murdered indigenous peoples movement
Meet the Artist:
Nicole Merton, is a Photographer with a BFA from CSUF and a mother of two. She has been closely working on a photography series focusing on the MMIW Crisis within the indigenous communities.
MMIW stands for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, including girls and two spirits. In 2016 there were over 5, 712 women and girls missing or murdered. Only 116 were reported in the DOJ database, and only 5 percent of the current crisis was shared in the news. Nicole’s desire to change these statistics, inspired her into social action, creating this series to draw awareness and a voice for many who no longer have one.
About the Art:
Through this photography series, Nicole has had the honor of remembering many lost loved ones. She has also met brave supporters who also want to make a difference.
