About Typhoon Odette:

In December 2021, Super Typhoon Rai, locally known as Odette, hit the Philippines, bringing torrential rains, violent winds, floods and storm surges to the Visayas and Mindanao Islands. Overnight, the Typhoon left hundreds dead and hundreds of thousands of families homeless.

Siargao Island, known for it’s world famous surf break Cloud 9, is also home to VedyA café and hostel. VedyA’s long term vision is to build relationships between global surf communities, such as Encinitas and Siargao through impact driven awareness initiatives such as:

  • Relief + rebuilding efforts on Siargao, including community food kitchens, housing construction and boat repairs

  • A knowledge exchange between Siargao and Encinitas to co-steward Filipino native lands, starting with the opportunity to stay at VedyA in exchange for volunteering to build-out their regenerative farm, which will supply their café.

  • Increase inclusivity and diversity to the global surf community through supporting programs that encourage youth on Siargao to learn to surf, and encouraging surfers to consider the impact of their surf-trips on the communities they visit.

All proceeds raised during this event will be donated to re-building efforts in Siargao.
